Boston/NY on I-84. Which traffic is likely to be worse, July 3 in the afternoon or July 4 in the morning?
Any suggestions as to optimal times are welcome (also for return trip on Sunday the 6th, but there I have less leeway). The time kind of has to be during ordinary waking/daylight hours because kids and grandparents are involved. Thanks!
A-Best: I would think July 3rd in the afternoon is worse since a lot of workplaces will let employees out early to get the headstart, as opposed to July 4th in the AM whereas a lot of people have already gone to their destinations the night before. By 10AM on July 4th, depending on how far you're going, you should be okay.
A: July 3rd will be the worst. Your best bet is to leave either in the morning of the 3rd or in the morning of the 4th.
A: My guess would be worse traffic on the 3rd in the afternoon because anybody who has not left yet will be leaving then. Return in earlier afternoon on Sunday.
